V2 Cigs Fan of the Week: Angie’s Story

Filed in Our Fans by on May 3, 2012

Young Angie with her Dad

My name is Angie.  I was 11 years old the first time I tried a cigarette.  My father, who was easily a 2 packs a day smoker, smoked Camel non filters or as most call, Camel “bare asses”.  I was playing in the front yard while he washed his truck and I watched as he flicked his cig aside and walked away.  I decided to fulfill my curiosity.  I picked it up and not knowing the “proper technique”, obviously, I sucked the hot smoke straight in and immediately erupted with a choke, gasp, and cough all at once.  Amidst my hacking, I noticed my mother in the window.  I immediately noticed she was staring right at me.  With daggers.
I was undeterred.  I was a pack a day smoker by the time I was 16.  And my brand of choice… you guessed it.   One good thing about smoking Camel non filters is never having to bum one.  As soon as I flashed the pack, people were like “um, nevermind”.  Plus, there was an almost endless supply as my dad would buy 5+ cartons at a time.
In 2008, my father passed away.  He was a diabetic and had had both of his legs amputated just below the knee.  What was once a tiny cut on the back of his heel resulted in him losing his foot, and eventually the rest of one leg.  Then the other because of the lack of circulation due to smoking.  I decided I needed to quit.   After countless attempts and relentless failure, my brother told me about V2 Cigs.
My first experience with v2 was the weekend of my 29th birthday which was in mid January.  My mother and I planned to stay the weekend at a fancy hotel and do some shopping.
Unfortunately, smoking wasn’t permitted in the rooms and honestly, I didn’t want to smell like smoke walking into such a fancy place.   So I asked my brother to borrow his v2 for the weekend.   He gave me the crash course before we left and for some reason I felt incredibly dumb trying it for the first time.   But once I figured it out, that was it.  I knew this thing would be essential in my quest to quit.
So now, here I am.  16 years of Camel bare asses behind me and many years of healing ahead.  I already feel different.  Better.  My sense of smell has already increased and the tingling in my fingers and toes has become a constant as blood flow returns.  It’s been a month and a half since I’ve smoked a Camel.  A month and a half of cravings, anger, frustration and crazy dreams.  I never could have gotten this far without V2 Cigs.  So thank you v2.  Now if I could only convince my boyfriend.
