Five Common Ecig Misconceptions

ecig facts v2.comIf you’re an experienced vaper, or even if you’re still exploring the ecig and vaporizer world, you’re probably aware that there are misconceptions about vaping. It’s pretty hard to avoid: There’s so much inaccurate or poorly presented information out there that non-ecig consumers have to go out of their way to be well informed.

Here are the some of the myths and mistakes we come across on a regular basis, whether through media or in day-to-day life.

Ever ecig, vape pen and vaporizer is not all alike. These are very different products, but media tends to sweep them all into the same category, using ecig as a shorthand for everything from cigalikes to vape pens and portable vaporizers. As we pointed out in an earlier post, a disposable ecig is a good place to start if you’re new to vaping.

E-liquids aren’t ‘mysterious’ and exotic. Most makers of ecig e-liquid or e-juice, as some call it, are transparent about what’s in it. It only makes sense! Why would people buy a product and ingest it if they have no idea what’s in it? Generally speaking, there are essentially four ingredients in e-liquid: vegetable glycerin, which serves as the base and produces much of the vapor; propylene glycol, which is also commonly used in asthma inhalers and carries flavor well; flavor; and pharmaceutical grade nicotine.

Vapor = smoke….not! This one always drives us crazy, but often when people see clouds of vapor they assume it’s smoke, or that it has similar properties to cigarette smoke. Even though we’re not fans of banning ecig use where smoking is banned, we advise vapers to be conscientious about where they vape, for this very reason.

It’s not always about the nicotine. There are plenty of people whose ecig has no nicotine. Or contains smaller amounts of nicotine. True, many ecig consumers prefer higher nicotine levels, but as vaping matures as a category, many people who initially switched for the nicotine taper down to zero or very little nicotine. V2 offers e-liquids without nicotine, too.

Most vapers are respectful and polite. True, there are those who’ve been driven a bit crazy by the misconceptions around ecig use, or who are so zealous in their advocacy that they become a little narrow-minded, but they’re in the minority. In our experience, the ecig community is mindful and courteous when vaping in public.
