To Address Your Exploding Box Mod Concerns

Filed in E-Cig Lovers, News & Politics by on May 18, 2018 0 Comments

If you follow vaping news, you’ve more than likely heard about the box mod that exploded and killed a man in St. Petersburg, Florida this past month. At V2, we value transparency and would like to address any concerns our customers may have with regard to their V2 vaping products.

How are the Box Mod that Exploded and Your V2 Vape Pen Different?

First and foremost, every product sold by V2 undergoes extensive quality control measures before going out to customers and retailers. As we have mentioned in the past, this is one of the advantages of being a vertically integrated company. We not only make sure to discard of any damaged components before they reach the consumer; we design our products with safety in mind from the beginning.

All VMR electronic cigarettes and vaporizers are powered by integrated batteries sourced from only high quality battery suppliers and use batteries that are always properly aged. Our products use proprietary connections to ensure our hardware only works with our products, eliminating the ability for the consumer to replace any component parts with those of a lesser quality.

We also make sure the power demands on the batteries are within safe operating levels for those batteries. Our vaporizers are equipped with regulating chips to ensure no demands are made on the batteries that they can’t handle. All V2 electronic cigarettes have been restricted in less than 50 watts power output.

If you follow our official blog, you may have seen a previous post that addresses these concerns. It bears repeating that you should always follow the instructions in your V2 User Manual whenever using one of our products.

Why Are Box Mods Dangerous?

A box mod is a vaping device that is powered by removable batteries, usually size 18650, which can increase the wattage control of the vape. The coils and the tanks on these devices can also be modified.

The box mod involved in this incident was manufactured by Smok-E Mountain, a manufacturer based in the Philippines. It is a replaceable battery device, which brings up many safety issues. Loose batteries get damaged far more easily. They get wet and can short-circuit. And, when a customer replaces or charges these batteries, they may choose components that don’t meet the correct specifications.

Since they all use the same threads, the use of incompatible cartridges and chargers with batteries can cause degradation and weakness of the battery. Extremely high voltage and wattage being pulled from a battery not designed for such power and/or lacking regulating chips can cause malfunctions that could be dangerous.
